How I Kicked My Caffeine Habit

Let's chat morning habits. For a long time, I woke up, made a pot of coffee, had a couple cups before noon and then went for the mid-afternoon pick-me-up dose. Sound familiar? Then one day, after reading about how caffeine can affect our hormones and potentially anxiety, I thought "let's give this caffeine free life a try". However, I love the ritual of a morning cup of goodness.

Bring in the greens. It started as a coffee swap but came with plenty of benefits. Before I go on, it's important to note that while greens powders can offer potential benefits -- do your homework, read the labels, and if you're pregnant or have any food allergies, consult your doctor before making a change. They also aren't a replacement for a well rounded diet incorporating whole foods.

Green powders can have all sorts of ingredients from fruits and veggies to pre- and probiotics. I suggest taking a holistic look at any other supplements you incorporate to avoid double dipping on vitamins, minerals, etc.

Here are some of the top reasons I now consistently incorporate greens into my routine:

  1. No caffeine crash: That mid-afternoon slump? No more. By cutting caffeine, I found I'm more in tune with when I'm actually tired and need to slow down, versus constantly adding in a stimulant.

  2. Antioxidant support: Green powders are often rich in antioxidants, such as vitamin C and vitamin E.

  3. Gut Health: What is happening in your gut affects what is happening with your brain health, and vice versa. An interesting example of continued research on this can be found here.

  4. Ease: Water, a scope of greens, a quick shake, and you're out the door.

My current routine incorporates greens+ from Memore. There is no mystery when you read the ingredients list, their products are created intentionally, and they have a variety of flavors (plus a bomb female founder).
